MyCheapNYC: Neighborhoods
In NYC, picking an affordable neighborhood should be one of the top things on your list of importance. While Williamsburg and the East Village are trendier, nearby Greenpoint in Brooklyn is much more affordable. The perks?: Older, more distinguished housing, cheap Polish food nearby, lots of park space (and very dog friendly), and a quiet vibe. The downside?: You'll be off the the G train, one of NYC's most notoriously slow lines. However, during the day the G runs pretty frequently, and with a quick transfer on the 7 getting to midtown is a breeze. Also if you're you can handle a 15 minute walk, the Graham and Bedford L's are in close walking distance.
